I once walked into a used bookstore in my college town and asked where the romance section was only to have the employee laugh in my face and tell me they didn't have one of those sections here. Pretentious as fuck and I didn't go back there.
Romance novels get the shit end of the deal in bookstores and libraries everywhere (although many booksellers and librarians are advocates for the genre). As August (#readaromancemonth) draws to an end I found myself wondering what sort of stories booksellers and librarians have to tell about their customers and their romance sections. Keep reading for some of my stories from working in an independent bookstore and some stories from my fellow booksellers, bloggers, and librarians.
